have you not read A Tale of Two Cities? it's one of my favorites. the execution scene was just... oh, heart-wrenching for me! it's perfectly poetic.

Nope; my high school assigned Great Expectations instead, and, at the time, I didn't care for Dickens' writing, so I wouldn't have read it on my own. I figure that I should give Dickens another chance by now. :)

i really like the man, actually. whenever one of my friends reads the Spark Notes for Tale of Two Cities, i kidnap one of their pets.

Spark Notes in general are pretty horrid.

I figured that I should give his writing another chance; assigned reading in high school isn't always the best environment to develop an appreciation for a writer, especially a non-contemporary "longform" writer like Dickens. So far, I think I am enjoying it more, and, in particular, I can better appreciate how he opens scenes and characterizes people and places.
