I'm sure you've heard about it by now. The movie version of Ender's Game has finally materialized from the mists of Hollywood. Half of geekdom is passing out from glee, while the other half is passing out from rage at the idea that Orson Scott Card and his toxic views will be getting that much money and attention ( Read more... )

Fortunately, I never read the book so I don't have to face the question.

I would hesitate to ever write the sentence "in honor of OSC" -- perhaps "to spite OSC?" :)

I look at it as "Card already HAS the money. My going to see it -- or not -- won't change it. OTOH, it may well change whether the several hundred OTHER people involved in the production get paid a little more. Which is really what matters. Card's monetary future is not in question here."

And, if we want Hollywood to make more real SF movies (as opposed to "fantasy in space" or "horror in space"), Ender's Game needs to do fairly well.

So there are multiple reasons to go, even if I do want to register my opposition to Card's political views.
