Does anyone use this gym? (I'd prefer info on the Crossgates location, but another location is better than none.) What do you think of it ( Read more... )

I prefer planet fitness, more locations, can go to any of them, more relaxed friendly atmosphere. They are opening one in crossgates commons next to michaels next month too.

I had a membership there (the location on Albany-Shaker) for a while, and was really not happy with how well they maintained the equipment.

I also don't remember them offering any classes, which is something I really want in a gym.

acturally I joined there but love the schenectady one better. It is cleaner and has more light which makes me want to exercise more.

Golds also has classes though to and more locations.

In order for me to go at all it needs to be absurdly convinent. Schenectady doesn't count, unfortunately.

I'll look into Gold's, though.

Thanks!

No info specific to this location but I will offer the following:

Cleanliness for a chain like this will vary by location. I'd encourage you to poke your head in and also ask for a free pass (from any gym you are considering) to see if it fits you & your day before you commit.

Most gyms are also pretty open and friendly when it comes to members (actually encountering the old arrogant, high school jock stereotype is pretty rare.) but pay attention to how the staff behave and treat you. That will tell you Volumes.

The guy I talked to the other day seemed nice, and offered a trial day. I'll probably arrange one after the holidays.

That's cool. If I might, either arrange it before the holiday (if you can) or, if after the holiday, give people time to get back into their regular schedules and then go. It'll give you a better feel for the place (how busy) at the times you'd be working out.

The immediate post-holiday rush can be pretty crazy but thins out pretty quick. I don't want you to make a selection based on a false impression.

Very good point. I'll try to find time between now and the end of the year, if I can.

The Best Fitness in Westgate Plaza wasn't too bad as long as you just go to the gym and the classes and don't let them rook you into personal training. Total waste of money.
The classes (especially Zumba) fill up fast but are worth the hassle.

I'll look into them too. Thanks!

Zumba is pretty absurdly fun for an exercise class.

I'm currently shopping for a gym with classes as well. I'd really like one with a lap pool, but know that's probably not going to happen.
