Chapter 1: Crimson Red
Loud noises could be heard as a scared little boy cautiously made his way towards the kitchen.
“You whore! How could you have an affair with another man?” yelled the drunken man as he lifted his hand and slapped his wife across the face.
This wasn’t the first time he saw his mom lying helplessly on the floor with bruises covering her whole body. The little boy turned his tear stained eyes towards his own arms, which were also covered with bruises and scars.
As the drunken man raised his hand again, the little boy let out a muffled scream.
The drunken man turned towards the direction the sound had come from. Upon laying eyes on his son he screamed, “ I bet this garbage isn’t even mine!” as he stumbled towards the little boy. He grabbed him by his hair. Angrily, he moved to slap his face when the boy’s mother suddenly grabbed a knife off the kitchen counter and charged towards her husband.
The next memory in the little boy’s mind was seeing his mother’s eye, void of all emotions, staring at her husband’s white dress shirt now stained crimson red. The little boy’s mother opened her mouth and started laughing uncontrollably…she had lost all sense of humanity.

His eyes flew open.
“It was only a dream,” he muttered to himself as he glanced towards the clock on his desk. “It’s only 5?”
After sitting on his bed for a few moments, he brought both of his hands up to massage his temples to stop the pounding headache caused by the dream. This has been one of the many dreams that have been haunting him for the past 10 years of his life. Never once subsiding, no matter how hard he tried to forget them.
He made his way to the bathroom to take a cold shower to clear his mind. As he looked at himself in the mirror, he automatically looked at the scar that ran from his left shoulder to beneath his collarbone. Bruises decorated his pale skin. There were several other smaller scars and bruises along his back, but they were less noticeable. He stepped into the shower and soon the cold water ran down his face. He bitterly wondered when was the last time he truly smiled.
