I stumbled across IP MAN while browsing Hulu Plus on Friday night. (It’s also on Netflix instant streaming.) I recognized “Ip Man” as the name of Bruce Lee’s first Wing Chun teacher (although I had always seen it as “Yip Man“), and thought I might find a few good fights scenes to enjoy. I really enjoyed that too, but it reminded me a lot of Jet Li's "Fearless" which I liked even more...

My only problem with FEARLESS is that I like happy endings. :-D

But Jet Li's FIST OF LEGEND is one of my favorite movies ever, so I'll probably have to buy FEARLESS at some point just because it has a crossover character.

How's the karate?

I'm certainly not a good judge of karate (I don't think my kempo experience counts), but there really isn't much karate in this at all. Only a few very short scenes. And the Japanese come off horribly, as usual. (One of the reasons that I love FIST OF LEGEND so much is because they have a really awesome Japanese martial artist who is also honorable.) Have you seen FIST OF LEGEND? The scene between Jet Li and the cool Japanese master (not the evil one) is one of my favorite fight scenes of all time.

Yeah, the Japanese master in Fist of Legend was awesome. The villain is what made me ask about this one. :) (Not so much that he was a villain, but that he was so obviously Chinese.)

Ha! I didn't realize he was Chinese, but that makes sense.
