I love animals so much. A large part of me believes that there should have never been industrialization and development that lead as far as where we are now, in any country on any continent. And also that none of these continents should have been colonized by foreigners. Why? I know that I wouldn't even exist, but just look at all the wild life ( Read more... )

I understand what you mean, I have a big affinity for wolves. Have you ever seen A Man Among Wolves? Shaun Ellis is a researcher who seemed to have developed an ingenious way of helping preserve wolf populations from farmers who kill wolves to protect their livestock from wolf attacks. He recorded wolf howls and had the farmers play them and it kept the wolves from their farms because wolves saw those farms as a territory of another wolf pack. It's really interesting, I love how Ellis is attempting to find a way for humans and wolves to coexist rather than 1) telling humans to just back off or 2) killing wolves for human benefit. He lost his home and his family for his dedication to living among wolf packs, but I love what he's done.

i don't know the exact wording, but somewhere, i read a quote whose intent amounted to: 'if our reason and compassion are what set us apart from animals, then our reason and compassion should guide us in our treatment of them'.

There are many things we can do, its all about creating a sustainable way of living. There are tons of people who have ideas about how to do this, and there is an extensive breadth of information written about it. The problem is that people don't know or don't care about the harmful effects of their lifestyle. Taking small steps as an individual in my opinion is the best way to start. Having values, and making your values known to others by consumer conscious choices.

But, animals taste so good. Eventually it will come down to humans vs. animals fighting for space. I'm voting for humans, and when all the animals are dead, I will eat the humans.

i see where you're coming from, and i whole-heartedly agree that we should do more for endangered animals.

however, i think it's somewhat bigoted to think we aren't animals ourselves. while we have an intellectual capacity that exceeds those of any other in the animal kingdom, we fall prey to our primitive functions--making us just as instinctive as those animals that kill off farm animals. perhaps it's an innate reaction to cover territory, or just some sadistic pleasure that we derive from killing other species off. either way, most people don't exercise the self-control necessary to live harmoniously with others (sometimes with other humans).

of course, this doesn't excuse the act of killing.

.... i vote we send animal killers to the moon.
