REVAMPED
In Vamped, Gina and her minions defeated a vampire vixen, a psycho-psychic and the vampire council of Mozulla, Ohio. Gina was all ready to expose vampires to the world in all their fanged fabulosity…until the Feds arrived to sweep everything under the rug and make them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
In ReVamped, Gina and her boyfriend Bobby are sent undercover to infiltrate a New York high school where some seriously weird stuff is going down. Worse than that, Gina’s new super-secret identity is as goth-girl Geneva Belfry. No color palette to speak of. More chains than a bike rack. And don't even get her started on the shoes. At least she won’t be too worried about blood spatter when kicking the butt of her newest nemesis, who’s decided that the high school makes a perfect playground.
Jenn: What’s your favorite gizmo advertising your book?
Lucienne: My character, Gina Covello, fashionista of the damned, has a blog, where she recently put out a call for minions. The tagline for Vamped, the first novel in my series, was “Eternity Needs an Entourage.” Really, don’t we all? I absolutely love the result, which is this short film from Gina’s new BFF Sallie Marie…the Romance Puppy.
Jenn: Why was it important to you to write this book?
Lucienne: To get the voices out of my head (*grin*). Really, Gina’s insidious.
Jenn: Where is this book set, and what does the setting mean to you?
Lucienne: The book is set in Wappingers Falls, New York, which is in the Hudson Valley. I grew up there, and the area will always be special to me, not the least of which because I met my husband when we were both actors at a local haunted house which makes a cameo appearance in the book. It’s a really beautiful area where, oddly, people don’t even blink when you go out after hours still caked in ghoul make-up (as I know from experience).
Jenn: My May release, Endless Summer, is the sequel to The Boys Next Door, and it’s the first sequel I’ve written. How do you feel about sequels and series versus stand-alone novels as a writer, and as a reader?
Lucienne: We invest so much in our characters that it’s painful to part with them after just one book, as either a reader or a writer. For that reason, I love sequels. It’s important, though, to be mindful of writing a true sequel, rather than a reprise. You have to keep things fresh and exciting, plot twists and turns, unexpected characters popping in or dropping out…it’s a lot of fun to play with readers’ expectations. Sometimes, I even surprise myself. There were characters I really wanted to bring back that just didn’t fit, and at least one who stalked his way into ReVamped whether I wanted him there or not.
Jenn: What good books have you read lately?
Lucienne: I’d had THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins on my TBR stack for far too long when I finally made time to read…and then had absolutely no life until I finished. I went out days later to pick up the sequel, by which point my son, who’d heard me rave, had finished THE HUNGER GAMES and grabbed CATCHING FIRE right out from under me, but I expect that it will be the next fabulous book I read outside of what I represent, which is, of course, all awesome!
Jenn: When readers tell you they’ve read and loved all your books and they want recommendations for similar books to read now, what do you say?
Lucienne: I can only aspire to be in the same league as the others I could recommend, but: Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series, Rosemary Clement-Moore’s Maggie Quinn: Girl vs. Evil books, Chloe Neill’s Dark Elite, Stacey Kade’s THE GHOST AND THE GOTH….
Jenn: What’s next for you?
Lucienne: Sleep? Oh, who am I kidding…that’s just a waking dream. I’ve just turned in the third in my Vamped series, Fangtastic, and have just enough time to noodle around with a few shiny new ideas shouting my name before I settle down to write the fourth, Fangtabulous.
