In a futuristic society, religion controls everything including when and if people can have children. Hospitals are in churches, doctors and government officials are Reverends, Brothers and Sisters, etc. Everyone is required to attend church. Just you typical dystopian theocracy except things to be running pretty smoothly for Michael and Margaret. ( Read more... )

If you wanna do this as a short-ish story (what's the goal word count?), re-read Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" -- a brilliantly executed dystopia.

I'll have to read that. I love Shirley Jackson. I read her book Life Among the Savages and couldn't stop laughing.
