The book is closer to what I need for the story. I imagine an autographed copy would mean a lot because it would be hard to find.

Time TDY to attend that astrophysics conference in San Diego on wormhole physics. Of course someone will have to go with to be sure she doesn't drop any classified information.

Her commanding officer raises his hand to volunteer.

Eyebrows raise all around the conference table.

"Right. And of course you are going to know if she does," mutters Daniel.

"I have a telescope, Daniel!" says Jack, with wounded indignation.

Hammond opines that since the Colonel is her immediate superior and has some knowledge of astronomy, he'll have to do. His smile as he says this is indulgent.

As they file out, Jack can be heard saying "So Carter... let's try this one more time. What's with the worm thing?"

Hammond, knowing his chain is being gently yanked - and Dr. Jackson's is being given a good hard tug - shakes his head, gives a rueful smile, and retreats to his office.

This would be a totally different fic, but I could write it. I actually have one started where Sam has to call Jack to accompany her to an awards ceremony or something because Daniel ditches her at the last second Ant there's no one else to go with. I never got past her getting in the car wearing her gown. Someday...
