My older two girls got their ears pierced on July 12. It's been almost six weeks so I thought I'd let them put their new earrings in that they got. My almost 9yo, Brenna, is all excited so I get the first earring out which is a bitch because of the clasp.
The kids are all like, "um, is that normal?"
I look over and the hole is covered in this

For future piercings, I recommend a piercing parlor; professional body piercers know so much more about making & healing piercings than mall workers with piercing guns. (After all, the professionals pierce other, more sensitive parts of the body than earlobes!) Piercing guns bruise the tissue and make the holes heal more slowly; hand-guided needle piercings sting for only a moment.
When I got my earlobes re-pierced at a pro parlor when I was 26, it was a much more positive experience than when I was 10 years old. (The gun piercings got infected after a year & I had to stop wearing earrings & let the flesh grow back.)

I got my ears done when I was 14 at a kiosk in the mall (not even a full jewelry store). They were fine for the first few year and then when I was a senior they started bleeding randomly. Since then I've never been able to wear earrings. I put them in and within an hour my lobes are swelled up and hurt so bad I can barely get the earrings out.
Doesn't matter which kind of earrings I use or if I clean them or what. They always get infected.
I think I might try the salt water on my own ears, though, and see if that makes a difference. It cleared Meagan's infection up so quick.
My holes are still open, though. Only once did they get close to closing so I just pushed the earrings through to open them. That didn't help my issues any, lol, but the holes are still open.

I recently got the rook of my ear pierced and I'm still having some issues with it but I keep playing about with mine so I think I've just not given it a chance to heal properly is all!
Hopefully the salt soak will clear up Brenna's ear quickly!

Also, I don't know what they tell people to use on new ear piercings these days (I have four sets and was told a different liquid to use each time), but I always found rubbing alcohol to work better than anything else. That's what they recommended for my first ear piercings, though though they said not to anymore by the time I got the second ones, I still think it works really well - far better than peroxide or that solution they sell at Claire's for like 5 times as much...
I hope she'll heal very quickly!
