Still all about the Dredd, not so much the 3D

So: apparently Dredd is still stuck in my head, considering I saw it again within the space of 4 days... in 3D this time, which was mostly pointless aside from a few pretty exploding glass/blood/wtf slo-mo scenes.  3D is never getting any less murky, and I'm not seeing it anymore clearly than I ever was (GP lenses: never not racking up light flares ( Read more... )

I had fun reading your entry on Dredd. Kudos :)

Just a couple of minor points though:

1. Ma ma didn't spare Anderson from rape because Anderson's a girl. Ma ma wanted it to look like a drug bust gone wrong. And she didn't want to waste time while Dredd was still at large.

2. Anderson didn't take Judge Chan's lawgiver. To take down Judge Kaplan, she used an MP5 stolen from one of the thugs she took out during her escape.

Otherwise, great post! :D

Wow, thank you for the comment, and kudos for wading through all of that randomness!

And salient points too - I got that Ma-Ma said that staging the drug bust was why she was going to only have Anderson shot, but what with Ma-Ma's backstory, and the mirroring of Dredd's suggestion to Anderson about being shot, and the fact that Anderson does somehow stay alive for so long after the original order to have her killed... It just made me wonder whether there was more going on with Ma-Ma's motives under the surface. Pure extrapolation on my part though, I just like how the characters are hard to quite pin-down motive-wise

The gun, I had no clue, so thanks for clearing that up :-) And I've now seen it four times and am just crap at telling guns apart apparently. I think I just assumed she took a lawgiver because I liked the symbolism of Anderson ending up with another one even though she lost hers (like that was why she failed the assessment but actually passed).

I totally agree with you that the elevator scene was sweet. At least, as far as Dredd can show it :P Anderson is the perfect foil to Dredd and it's apparent in that scene that they work together really well :D

This is as close as we're going to get to a proper gritty and violent Robocop remake.
