the FUTURE. dun dun DUN.

Graduation is less than a year away. I've always said that I've had enough of school and that I'm ready to jump full force into the working world but now, I am not so sure. Why? Because real life sucks. As I aspire to pursue a career in the business field, I see that the corporate world is dirty, bureaucratic, and vicious beyond belief. I was told ( Read more... )

"I miss my world of sunshine and lollipops" Literally i do too... the fun times in highschool seems so far away when you're so far into University, but then again it feels like it just happened yesterday.

I'm tired of work too, i work in the office and rite behind me i literally have the big top guys breathing down my back. District Manager and the manager of the food services in the Toronto zoo rite behind me, its so hard to satsify them.

I totally know what your saying too Jen, i hear so much of what ppl say about mgmt and what mgmt thinks, as much as i like to add my opinions its like i'm over-stepping my position.

I'm telling you, you need to socialize your kids to fit into the dog-eat-dog world! Where did we go wrong? Probably somewhere in evolution, some jackass killed off the other honest, kind and compassionate clan. Then his genes got passed on and ta da! US.

I'd like to stay naive and sheltered but obviously I can't. Better to know now than later I guess.

Man, if I tell my kids that it's a dog eat dog world, they're going to be that bully who gives wedgies to the poor nerdy kids!

To climb the corporate ladder you gotta throw the guy in your way off it. I say get to where you're comfortable and stay there.

Nothing else to talk about in the workplace among colleages but drama and gossip and I learnt this from a bakery, haha. Although if someone out there really is trying to bring you down, means you must be pretty damn good at your job for them to see you as a threat.

P.S, I miss the world of sunshine and lollipops too. Life used to be so much easier in highschool.

Haha you're totally right about having to throw someone else off to get where you want to be.

No one is directly trying to bring me down, I've just seen it happen to other people. It's sad =(

money and power. dangerous and scary. and this is where honesty, integrity, compassion disappear. as i said to someone once: if only we didn't need money, if only money (and other "riches") did not exist, [friend's reply]But they do exist and because of human nature, they are required to exist for us to exist (for now). i hate how we "require" it and if we didn't i would just do volunteer work all my life. even in that little embroidery company that i worked at first and second year summer, so much drama, i understand how you feel: first day, my mom's friend told me to be careful about each person, watch what i say (it is tiring). my dream life: live in the mountain/away from the city; garden, draw, practise taichi, explore nature with my pet dog lol.

totally go for that, Ming! anything is possible if you want it badly enough....

let's start a little farm! lol..., i need to learn a little bit more about it though..

was it jon that said that, about the money? i brought up this topic with him awhile back, and that's pretty much what his argument was. i don't think it is required by "human nature"... i don't really know what that means. i suppose he meant because we can be selfish...so $ is a way to measure our wealth (and subsequently, a measure of economic power).

i love volunteering! but for work, if I do things that i love to do and get paid for it...then that is all the better as it is needed to survive. but I do know an activist who gets by volunteering at least half of his time... so you see it can be done.

i am reminded of what lili said on my blog, her dream of building a "good" company, based on moral and ethical values but still able to operate in our current environment. we still have to meet for coffee to discuss those ideas... :)

yes it can happen. but it might take years. first i have to pay off my osap...*sigh*

yeah i know what he meant. selfish and greed.

yes, it is needed to survive. money is a big headache, whether you have or not have it. as i was saying, i hate how we need money to surive. i know it can be done... but as i am currently so much in debt ... this plus my dream life: live in the mountain/away from the city; garden, draw, practise taichi, explore nature with my pet dog is what i want.

her dream of building a "good" company, based on moral and ethical values but still able to operate in our current environment
that sounds like a good idea! and i hope it does come true one day.

[money] exists because some greedy bastard decided to create it - when really it's nothing more than printed paper - we were the ones who injected value into it.

i'll be in the mountain next to you watching tv (damn you, addicitve media!) and napping.

it's just a matter of finding that special place in the business world where sunshine shines through your office windows and they serve lollipops for snacks! Not all business places are that bad, the way you work and interact with people will help you find a place where you won't have to worry about all the politics of business...you're a smart cookie and you'll find whatever it is you're looking for, it's just a matter of time!
