Post Book Deal

I never gave much thought to what my life would be like after a book deal. There's still a lot of angst and worry and doubt. After reading posts by writers in similar situations, I was kind of prepared for it.

What I wasn't prepared for was what it would feel like working on a totally new project.

True! I'm just going to keep writing my little heart out. If it's meant to get out there, it will, I suppose.

Second books are the worst. Almost everyone goes through a painful period of doubt. Just plug through and I'm sure there will be ways to position dystopian-esque stuff in the marketplace differently.

Thanks, Jackie! I'm just going to keep writing and see what happens. I'm having fun with it, so that's all that matters!

I know how you feel! I was playing around with the WIP I was working on before BORN WICKED sold--my Sleeping Beauty retelling--and it's so strange to wonder if it will be the next serious project after my trilogy, and whether it's similar enough or too similar in some ways or or or...But I guess we should just keep writing things we love, and let our agents/editors worry about the marketability/branding stuff?

True! This new project is nothing like Altered, so I guess that's a good thing, in some ways. Plus, my contract says my third book will either be Altered #3 or any other YA book. So maybe this could be the third? Who knows! No reason to stop writing it simply because I'm worried it won't be sold. I really am loving it right this second!

And ooooh, a Sleeping Beauty retelling? That sounds like fun!

Good luck with your dystopian WIP! Hopefully your interest in it won't wane anytime soon. ;)
