Whenever, wherever

So, it appears that five of my shows had their premieres last night. I watched The Office and the first half hour of My Name is Earl. What did I do instead of watching all of my shows? I went to the gym and got really, really sweaty and tired ( Read more... )

Chobani Greek Yogurts are surprisingly yummy, and there's a company Rachel's that makes organic yogurts with some really interesting and varied flavors. They are on the more expensive side though, like you said. But that's the whole issue, isn't it. The reason companies use all these preservatives and crap is because it makes the food taste good for cheap prices and a longer shelf life. Eating well means paying more, no doubt ( ... )

If you really like the Crunch, maybe try throwing some of it into yogurt, rather than eating a whole bowl.

That's a really good point. I got used to eating a bowl of it on weekends and it working out well, so I've been having a full cup of it during the week. I actually do eat it in my yogurt and have noticed it's way too much for the little six ounce cup. I get more Kashi than yogurt. Since I have the granola bar in the afternoon, I think I can get away with cutting the serving in half.

I wish there was an appropriate gym with great classes near you. Most classes just don't fit with the laws, do they?

It's not the types of classes that's the issue, it's that the gyms are co-ed.

You might want to also consider adding Metamucil caplets to your diet (it doesn't have to be the Metamucil brand, it can be the Walgreen's version which is cheaper)because that contains psyllium fiber which is excellent for roughage and helps lower your cholesterol.

The Bon Secour Gym where I've been taking weight lifting also offers Zumba classes.

And Good Luck with everything.

Thanks. I will definitely consider Metamucil if my symptoms start acting up again. They may this weekend. I have a harder time sticking to an eating pattern on weekends.

My mom has tried Zumba and she said it was fun. I might give it a try. I need more aerobic options because I have hip issues and running, biking, and the elliptical machines have bothered them. I think it's the repetitiveness of these activities that is the problem.

I'm sorry about the IBD. I've had it since I was a little girl and I know it is so painful. Stress definitely brings it out, and I've discovered that for me, eating a lot of carbs makes it worse. Last year I ate only protein (lots of egg whites), cheese, and veggies for about 2 months and my IBD was about 90% improved. Lately, I've been eating lots of carbs and it is much worse. I have to get back to a better eating plan.

I also like Kashi Go Lean cereal in yogurt. I put it in plain nonfat yogurt and mix in a scoop of vanilla protein power. I also have a protein drink (I mix chocolate American Whey brand with water) before and sometimes after I do my weight training.

Good Luck.

Zumba's a lot of fun, but if you have problems with your hips, it might not be a good choice. There's a lot of hip shaking and rolling. I don't have problems with my hips, but they're very sore right now.

I get the feeling that dealing with IBS is going to be a lot of trial and error.

I seem to deal better with a mix of high-fiber carbs and protein before exercise. That's why my afternoon snack is a Kashi granola bar (6g of protein in those things!) and a banana. I keep hoping that the banana will help ward off the leg cramps, but I think the right footwear is going to do that!

You'll have to show me some dance moves at the wedding...I suck. Be seeing you the end of the week! Yay! and Squee!

Oh, good lord! That's a scary thought! I most likely will dance at the reception, especially if Sarah defied her family and there's a bar, but I wouldn't look to me for dance moves. I like to dance and I used to be pretty good, but these days, I'm kind of an enthusiastic spaz with not much stamina. On the other hand, that's fun in one way or another.

I can't wait to see you!

IBS is hard to deal with, but there are actually some meds that do help. When I had IBS flare up my senior year in college, my doctor ended up putting me on hyoscyamine, which basically stops the intestinal flailing that is causing you the pain. It can also constipate you, but hey, lesser of two evils is how I saw it. Plus, you're ingesting enough fiber to publish another run of the Harry Potter books, so that would help you there. Anyway, the hyoscyamine helped me so much, and I was able to stop taking it once things calmed down.

Also, meditation is pretty wonderful. Good luck with things! *hugs*

It sounds like a good option, but I appear to have IBS-C, so anything that causes constipation is something I want to avoid at all costs. All that fiber I'm ingesting is just enough to almost get me back to what used to be normal. I didn't eat any extra fiber over the weekend and I'm paying for it now. Ugh.

I don't think I could really do meditation. That was always one of my problems in the one yoga class I took. My instructor kept saying to clear my mind and I was like, "And how do you propose I do that?" I suspect knitting more often would help, though. I started to feel better while I was spending a lot of time trying to get my Clapotis finished. It could be a coincidence, but it might not be. I have quite a stash to work through, so it's worth a shot.
