yes.
you can always miss or long for something, whether it was ever in you possession.
especially if you thought you had it.
the question is: would you miss it more if you'd had it or if you hadn't?

Would you consider missing and longing for something the same? Peronally, I feel those two things at times, can be the same, and yet at other times, be totally different.

After thinking it over along with reading the two former opinions and questionings, Dr BoB has decided to comment and answer the parent question.

First the topic of distinquishing of missing and longing for something. It is agreed that they, at times, are the same. (This is from only a physical standpoint.)

The second topic is trying to understand the meaning of missing something. It can be looked at as a physical standpoint or it can be looked as from a mental point of view. You can miss something that you never had due to the fact that you did indeed have it as a dream object or desire and that it was there and left, both only in a mental state. The cases are rare and most likely are exceptional. From a physical standpoint, most cases really end up asking the question, "It is that you just long for it?" You must have or feel the oject at a point of time in order to miss it.
