What even is English?

The word "druther" (as in "If I had my druthers, I would eat cake all day.") is a pluralization of "druther" which is actually an 1800s contraction of "would rather". Example: "I druther eat cake all day."

English, why?

Excellent question! I've heard the word a great deal. :/

Just posted a linguistic question on linguaphiles which, I must say, is a responsive comm, even if my question didn't get answered. Uh, it was an off color question *the best kind!!* and nobody had heard of the phrase.
