4199: Nothin' To Say (feat. Rise)

I was part of a tour today--Ruok came by my desk with two people I don't know who they were, talked about how the copier/printer/scanner was off by itself in Engineering and how they moved it over by me 'cause I'm the only one who uses it, and mentioned how I was brought on just to scan the million documents over there. I felt a little put off by ( Read more... )

That article has a massive flaw... It's conflating libertarian ideology with the republican party, and assuming that all supporters of the party share that ideology.

As it happens, the republican party is very strong in rural communities which, yes, tend to be net recipients of government outlays.

This does illustrate the cultural divide between the supporters of the republican party. There's the smart, wealthy, urban, libertarian group. They want to pay less taxes and fully expect less services in return - "let private industry handle it", they say, in essence. Then there's the poor, rural, religious group; the people who would support Santorum.

These groups have very little in common, really. It's quite naive to assume both have the same ideology. I doubt many of those who swear by Ayn Rand are also among those who deny evolution.

It's a pity, because it goes on for a few pages of things I generally support (like ending these stupid farm subsidies, mortgage interest deductions, stop it with the stupid bigotry, etc).

I usually link things only if they're relevant, though sometimes they aren't completely accurate [that's most things, really], just because--while I do try to research where I can--it takes forever to verify whether certain claims are true. It's sort of why I've been trending toward things that either 100% jive with my feelings and/or are completely frivolous, negating the issue of fact-checking ['cause feelings and humour don't have facts].

Also, it gives you homework vs. me having to do everything ;p

What I know is that everyone needs to pay taxes so the governments can fund necessary public works like road repairs and maintaining a police and fire department. Unemployment is a nice system, acting sort of like an insurance that you pay into when you're employed and then can use to help you out in between jobs.
