LOL TOM PETTY

So, here's a thing. I'm still looking for a miniature tuba for that "reenact a panel of wondermark" project even though at this point it's pretty much entirely just to see if I can do it, so I checked out American Girl while at Tysons. I kinda figured from the lack of one on the website that I wouldn't find the tuba [or even, say, a Read more... )

The American Girl store at the Mall of America gave that impression to Mom and myself as well. They also do birthday parties there. Mom gave one of the baby dolls and starter kit to one of my nieces at xmas/new years.

Hah, cool. Not that i'd be interested in dolls, but the ones that have more artistic/realistic styles intrigue me more. I'm still very much into horses, realistic or not.

If you're wanting kid-interaction, you might look into boys/girls club type places, or any nonprofit kid-help place. Most of them would love the volunteer offer of an honest adult, and with volunteering there's not the constraint of having to go in every day at a particular time, and it might build connections if you find you like that sort of work - or it may give you other connections to other fulfilling work.

Haha, well.

My issue, and the reason I've been as adamant AGAINST kids as I have been, is I am actually quite a bit scared of "other people's" kids. Not like they'll kill me or that, but that I'd ruin them or otherwise absolutely fail to measure up as a proper adult in their minds. [Perhaps because I keep getting, "You're not legal!" when someone even hints at giving me alcohol I don't want anyway...] I know it's a stupid thing, but I'm just paralyzed around kids, especially ones acting up, especially if somehow I'm supposed to make a judgement call about something.

Mind, there've been no nieces/nephews for me to practice on, as it were, so it's kind of one of those things I'm sure would be really awesome if I could ever get into it [like being able to build my own motorcycle or something], but it's just one more thing on my platter that's already overflowing with projects that hold a greater relevance to my interests, as it were.

So, dolls =p The fastest/cheapest/most effective way to scratch the tiniest of itches.
