One of the scrapsofcrap entries described drawing from life--even poorly so--as being superior to drawing from photographs [or, in some cases, from "complete artistic license"]. I kind of do this at work, but the problem is I have models that constantly move around, since I'm trying to do the work surreptitiously. All it really seemed to do was make me think Read more... )

In the case of drawing real life vs. photographs, I would say it's dependant on how imaginative the artist is to visualize an image in 3 dimensions, but real life would give you the advantage of less work in that instance. Since art is 100% subjective to opinion and prefrences, it really can only have opinions. :)

Photographs at least have the advantage of portability. Not all of us carry around a nakked model in our portfolio. XD

This was one of the things I was pondering if I took up your job offer. Current: On one hand, after work there's literally no traffic, in terms of cars and shoppers. On the other hand, no social life.
