So, for purposes of research, I need to compile a reading list to work through over the course of the next year or two. Ideally, I want to cover at least one book from most of the longest running bestsellers (vs. the more niche authors I'd been reading), and I need some suggestions. Feel free to recommend your favourites based on preference, but I'm trying for a more universally-appealing list (vs., for instance, I feel like I started with Ursula K. Le Guin's worst book). Also ideally, people with upwards of 10+ books written, i.e. "established authors" vs. Stieg Larsson (sorry, dude).
Working list to date, in no particular order:
1. Stephen King
2. Tom Clancy
3. Agatha Christie (I know, I suck)
4. John Grisham
5. Barbara Lee - Final Closing (only because I saw a co-worker reading it, not for any particular attributes)
6. Terry Pratchett - I Shall Wear Midnight [SFX seems to think this is good]
7. Glen Cook
8. Spider Robinson
9. William Gibson
10. James Patterson
11. Michael Crichton
12. Kathy Reichs
13. ?
P.S. I do mean recommend specific books, too =)
P.P.S. I started reading Tamar Myers, Knightmare in Shining Armor because it was sitting on the bathroom shelf for aeons. Four chapters in, I think I know why it was sitting there =p so if you wanna recommend Myers, suggest a different book, peas
