Title: Guardian
Fandom: Lost…S4
Pairing: PB&J
Rating: K
Word Count: 328
Summary: Claire knows it wasn’t just a miracle that kept her alive in the house explosion…it was something else.

She’s never believed in Guardian Angels. She’s never believed in anything much.

But she believes in Charlie.

She doesn’t feel scared anymore, she feels like she did when she first met him. In a frightening place like this where she felt vulnerable and lonely, Charlie made the horrors of reality vanish in an instant. He watched over her, protected her.

Today, she sits alone awakened by the gunfire outside. She hears the screams and cries of terror, the evil threats, the dark closing in around her. But she’s not afraid. She’s alone but she doesn’t feel alone. And she knows she should be terrified but she doesn’t feel it

There’s a loud bang and she’s surrounded by angry fire, biting away at her. The house collapses and she feels her legs give way. The pain is there but it’s numb and distant and she opens her eyes to see Charlie’s smiling face in front of her, holding her hand and telling her she’s safe. She’s alive and she’s okay. His touch is soft and real, his smile so unbelievably comforting that she even finds herself smiling back a little. He squeezes her hand and speaks her name, tells her he’ll look after her just like before. He feels and sounds so real for a dead man. All she can do is reach out to that reassuring face of his and say his name to make sure she’s not dreaming.

She blinks and he disappears. The face in front of her is different, the smile now an anxious frown,
“Claire? Claire!”
The voice is less clearer than Charlie’s. It’s harsh and anxious. She realises Charlie is gone and soon enough she’s being carried to safety.

She knows it’s a miracle she’s alive. But she doesn’t believe it was just a miracle or fate or luck. She doesn’t believe in Guardian Angels, or any of those things.

But she believes in Charlie and she believes he’ll been keep her safe.
