Got to train for arm/shoulder strength to carry a bird of that size. Wow.
Finally received the Ransom bio 'The Last Englishman:
the Double Life of Arthur Ransom'. He was an odd man and not a very happy one especially at the end. The picture fits with Diana Wynne Jones account of her childhood encounter with him.
