Protect yourself in hotels!

When we were KO-ing after ZoukOut, we asked for late checkout but unfortunately couldn't get any.  I was telling triciaseow, mfluder, burbur and cheshirefeline that I was so tired that I didn't even mind just knocking out for a few hours in the 'special room', the existence of which I learnt about from this email that was circulating amongst my coursemates some time back.  It ( Read more... )

errr....i heard something happened in NRT a few years back. personally nothing that strange happened to me, but i got goosebumps in 1 NRT room and SEVERE goosebumps in TPE room.

i never bothered with 1.
2 was what happened to me in TPE (tell u full story next time)
3 i always did anyway cos i wanted to see what view i had and test all the elctrics. just in case the lights were broken and they try to blame you for it.
4 - i was such a mess my shoes were invariably upside down or something.
5 i always left 1 light on. usu the 'night light' setting if they had or sometimes the bedside lamp cos i wld fall asleep watching tv.
bibles - didn't know and didn't bother.
6 i wld always throw shopping onto the spare twin bed. i sleep sorta in the middle of big beds but totally surrounded by pillows.

i had a st christophers medal in my handbag and cabin bag all the time anyway.

I think your NRT story is the same one my friend heard of.

Oooh, I'm quite interested to know the TPE story!

I also always test all the switches in the room (more of to find out which does what) and leave the toilet light on when I sleep.

Actually hor, not all hotels practice that (leaving "special room(s)" empty no matter what). If there is a huge demand and overbooking, they still have to let out all their rooms, special or not. There is a hotel in Singapore, after one of their guests was murdered in the room, they refurbished the room in less than a day and let it out.

I used to intern in a hotel in Singapore and heard about some "special rooms". We try to not assign them but really, if we allow overbooking, then we have to let those rooms out.

My friend's father woke up one night in Tokyo and saw someone sleeping beside him! And I heard Grand Hyatt in Taipei is super "dirty".

Anyways, I do some of what you listed, like knocking before entering (I even ask them to excuse me cos I'm a temporary sleeper and won't disturb them) and I mess up the room big time. One more thing to look out for is - if the room smells new (furniture, paint etc.), ask to switch rooms.

I think the hotels don't leave the special room empty no matter what (that's why you might find yourself being assigned it).  But it's the last room to be let out and they usually only let it out if they have no other choice.

Perhaps the hotel where the murder occurred already had another special room so they figured they couldn't afford to set aside another one?  In any case I thought if a murder occurred, our local CSI would have their hands full with the room for a while.

Hmmmmm... will take note of Grand Hyatt Taipei; I wonder if it's the same hotel my friend [see above] had her strange experience in!

Share your severe goosebumps story! Is it true the 2 paintings facing the entrance are talismans?

wah, thanks! very amusing indeed.

actually i'm quite pantang about shoes by the bed. they cannot point towards the bed but must point outwards. if not they say spirits will follow you onto the bed.
