I do understand that if the wife has a higher income (and if the husband's lawyer is not an imbecile), he is not required to pay alimony BUT he has to still contribute to child maintenance if they have kids. It also depends on what the arrangement was like while they were married. If during the marriage, wife earns more but the spouse choose to pay for every single damn thing including the wife's shopping, unfortunately, he may be expected to do so after the divorce.

The contributing to child maintenance thing is valid, and I think the WC provides for both parents to contribute equally to maintenance of the child. I think that's only fair, as long as it takes into account the relative earning power of each parent-say if the wife is a company director or banker and the husband is a civil servant or Army officer, it would be unrealistic to expect both parents to contribute equal amounts.
