In on of my classes, we were reading about acrobats, and in the middle of reading about grueling training schedules of acrobats for Cirque de Soleil, I had to explain what "calluses" meant. When verbal attempts at explaining failed, I had the brilliant idea of giving my students a first-hand look at some calluses on my left hand, obviously ( Read more... )

First of all: when are you coming back to school?

Gah, I know what you mean! I used to have all these calluses on my left hand...and they're all gone. My mother is threatening to sell both of my violins :(

You and your brother aren't taking the same flight? Are you both headed back to Dallas?

I bought pens and pencils, mushrooms and chives for today's dinner
Haha, I thought the pens and pencils were part of the dinner. I was like, "Really?!"

I definitely don't think high school prepared me for Swat, either. But I suppose high school's all in the past - it happened, and there's no point dwelling on it now. I guess we just have to do our best with what what knowledge/preparatiob we have now, and I have no doubt that you'll do fine this year!

air fresheners and the logistics of lugging my fridge from Mary Lyons to Roberts, my humongous boxes in secure storage
Yay for hippo air fresheners! And just ask JJ to help you again. Bribe him with chocolate!

So my high school sent me a survey recently trying to figure out how well they prepared us for college, and my response consisted mostly of "Well, you really didn't. There are teachers that I learned stuff from, but nothing in the school curriculum really was hugely useful." It probably didn't help that I learned all my calc in a month at a community college the summer before freshman year. But ce la vie. Or something like that, but with proper French spelling.

Also, would you like to buy my Calc II textbook?

I can't wait for us all to get back to Swat. You really have no idea how excited I am to see all of you again. Good luck on your flight back to the states. Are you flying direct or taking a connecting flight somewhere?

Yes yes. I will sell it to you for $50, which is $30 less than the used copies in the book store. It is sitting on my book shelf waiting for you as we speak.
