I think my issues with Pinto!Spock come from three sources. Maybe you might recognize one?
1. He looks plastic-y. There's something about his makeup job that's weirdly shiny, like he isn't a real person, more Spockdroid, or Spock Action Figure (accessories sold separately). Even Data looked more real than Pinto!Spock does.
2. Pinto is a tenor, and Nimoy is a baribass. There's something about the voice lift that doesn't work for me. Spock should be a bit gravelly.*
3. This is mostly a problem that I have with the entire Abrams!Star Trek cast, but it applies to Pinto!Spock as well. They all come off as amazingly immature. Watching Abrams's Star Trek is like being sent back to the kids' table and eating chicken nuggets after years of eating real food with the grownups.
*On that note, imagine Nimoy and Benedict Cumberbatch getting together to sing a baribass duet. Possibly accompanied by a cello and a tuba.
I think #2 is partly right for me, yes. Nimoy has a gravitas that Pinto lacks.
Heee:D I like the updated Star Trek. It's fast and zippy and a hell of a lot lighter (so easier for me to actually consume right now). It doesn't replace TOS though.
Oh god. Now I want someone to make a mashup vid/track/something of the two of them!
Since the Lizzie Bennett diaries are told from her POV, the Lydia ones have different content and put things in perspective. 'Later', however, is pretty late since we don't see Lydia changing until after the Wickham incident.
Hm. Well, I watched ST2009 and then went back and watched TOS and realized how much more I liked Nimoy. Leonard Nimoy is the perfect Spock to me, so I guess no one could stand up to that:D
I totally agree with you on Karl Urban. Unf. And Chekov is soo very fluffy. Eeee. Did you know that Yelchin actually doesn't speak with an accent? He is American. But his parents are Russian or Ukrainian.
Here's my report - kitsuneyujji.livejournal.com/247916.html
The only two pics that I've uploaded so far are linked within. I have more, I just haven't had a chance to do anything with them yet. And I'm waiting for my photo-op with him to be mailed to me so that I can upload that too. ^_^

I'm kind of in love with Karl Urban's Bones, though and I infinitely prefer Pine to Shatner. And the little Russian is so fluffy!

I did not know that about checkov, but he manages it perfectly. My Sasha is Russian born and raised til she was a teen and she kind of adores him.
Poor Spock-lite just had too big shoes to fill. Nimoy was easily the best actor from the original crew.
