Just fyi, went to colo-rectal surgeon who was very nice, but did not let me get out of the colonoscopy. Mom reminded me I don't have to do ASAP. I can wait until fall if they can't schedule me before school gets out. It's good to have a reality check. Also, this woman is not paranoid and told me I could go 5-10 years if they don't find polyps, so ( Read more... )

Have you ever had a colonoscopy before? I had one about 8 or 9 years ago. They're...well, it's an experience :) This is a great read about someone else's experience :D

I had one and really the most unpleasant aspect was the preparation. (I was told that the day before I couldn't eat anything but clear liquids or gelatin.)

Oh yeah. I understand the prep is awful. That is what I'm concerned about, to be honest. How incapacitated will I be during the prep? I need to be prepared:D

Bumemr on the colonoscopy. You're in my thoughts.

Star Trek is waiting until this dissertation proposal is finished, which is due to my committee by Tuesday. Then I shall celebrate in the week before my defense. Star Trek shall certainly be involved at that point. :-) So I'll take a rain check on the convo there, but I may have Thoughts in short order.

Oh god. Do not worry about me. It's all about the doctors being worried. I am not worried. But thank you. I appreciate it.

Eeeee! Whenever you are ready, I'm here. Hope you enjoy it!

I'm up for that conversation, whenever you like. I mostly feel like what they got right was "ooh, pretty!" and what they got wrong was almost everything else. I managed to set aside the stupidity by sheer force of will and enjoy the movie in the moment, but I'm feeling pretty critical about it in retrospect. I was intrigued by the amazing amounts of male emotion flying around--everyone had tears in their eyes and the guys seemed to spend a lot of time sitting around talking about their emotions whenever they weren't hitting/shooting things. I'm not complaining about this, although I find it pretty amusing to think of Shatner playing the scene in the turbolift with Uhura, but it was a remarkable aspect of the movie for me.

It was definitely an engaging watch in the theater. I am feeling QUITE disappointed with representation issues after the fact. It's unfortunate that achievement/power/success still looks so white and male. However, other people have talked about that stuff better than I ever will be able to manage.

I was more interested in talking specific points. Like, was Pinto's Spock more emotional than Nimoy's? Less? I thought Montalban's Khan was more monstrous for having shown a human side when he is holding the boy before he dies. And he seems much more crazy at the end. Or rather, his Khan descends into madness where BC's Khan starts there.

Also, the scene next to the engine where first Spock and then Kirk die. It felt much more weighted to have Spock die because you knew that Spock and Kirk had had many years together.

LOL at Shatner having had the convo with Uhura. I think it would have looked different.

I think Pinto's Spock was *much* more emotional than Nimoy's. The scene in the shuttle? Nimoy always seemed distant to me, although I think part of that may have been that he was a grown-up when I was a child. I was disappointed that when Spock lost it after the engine room scene, his anger didn't seem more savage to me ( ... )

I was just completely baffled by that scene, where Spock lost it. And I agree, I think Pinto's Spock doesn't have that detached air we know from Nimoy.

Do we have any indication about what Spock sees in Uhura? Did something happen that I missed? I have to watch 2009 and see what happened when they got together. I wasn't paying the closest attention there:D

Oh, I definitely agree that BC's Khan was much more sociopathic.

And yes, I knew Kirk wasn't going to die in that scene. I mean, I knew he couldn't die forever there, so I agree with that analysis as well.

More sparkles is very sparkly - looks great!

I see Alex announced (re-announced?) his role in Macbeth with Kenneth Branaugh and Alex Kingston, I might be hoping they do a DVD of that one too!!!)

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with the effect here:D

Yeah, I saw that. It would be so awesome to have MacBeth with Branaugh, Kingston, and Alex on there, but I'm not counting my chickens on that one!

Oh, did you see the dragonfly? If you like it can be all yours. If not, I've got another person or two in mind to ask:D

Sorry, I've hardly been on LJ for the past few days and then it's been a sort of drive by visit.
