OMG, squee

Look what I did.  I'm ridiculously excited about how the Anger quilt looks.  The phoenix is not quite done.  Just a little more and then it will be done.  I have put them both in the  finished quilts album, even though it's a little bit cheating:D

Wait - which one is Anger? The first one, right? Is the Phoenix representing ... acceptance? I like how spiky and black the first one is - definitely feels like anger. You've done a nice job of capturing the feel of flames in the phoenix.

The first one is Anger, yes. Thanks!

No the Phoenix is not part of the cycle of grief. It symbolizes rebirth, coming out of the ashes. To me, it's more like perserverance.

On the one hand, yay! that the sea urchin works so well, but I'm sorry that it's also hard to enjoy.

Yes! Definitely. This has been a big breakthrough for me and I'm having so much fun with it!

Thanks! Nice to see you pop in:)

I'm always speechless when I see your art, it's always surreal for me. I don't know how to describe it, but I always try to control everything I create down to the last detail, and the price is that the end product is always boxed in, to a certain extent, by rules and theories on how to make things look more aesthetic or realistic. I don't know how to make art otherwise, it's kind of sad. But here you are, making these quilts and with lovely flowing patterns without any sort hindrance at all, it's so wonderful to see. *hugs* <333

O. M. G. I am just full of feelings from your comment. I have almost zero training in art and I always feel inadequate. I don't feel your art is like that at all, at least not the stuff I've seen.

Also, I've been quilting since 2001. These quilts that I've been doing this year are a huge departure for me and I think that part of it is a result of the therapy I did. I'm able to be less critical of the parts of me that aren't conventional and truly express myself, if that makes sense. It's like I know too many rules about quilting and I'm only just now starting to break through some of them, to quiet that voice that tells me I'm doing it wrong.

I'm so glad! I hoped you would feel how much I appreciate your quilts. It's something else for me to see it on my Flist where I expect to see fanart created with techniques that's possibly as controlled as my own.

I'm also slowly loosening up, trying every style I can think of instead of sticking stubbornly to what I think is the idea of perfection. I think I need that therapy too! I think it really set you free.

*hugs back!* <333

:D These little quilts that I'm creating probably aren't "typical" for art quilts either. I mean, they definitely wouldn't win any prizes for technique, but people respond to them so strongly and that makes me very happy ( ... )

\o/! :D Yay! I'm so happy these both work for you. Wait until you see the phoenix with its little feathers on its head. It's almost done. I just have to put the triangles on the pack, for hanging, and give it an eye and a beak.
