Hugo

Took DD1 to see Hugo this morning.  It's fantastic.  Asa Butterfield is amazing.  (Although I have one little nitpick and this is not his fault, at all.  He's just a wee bit too old for the part.  Hugo is 12.  Asa Butterfield is 14 1/2.  I could tell that he wasn't twelve.  His hands, FEET, and shoulders were just wrong for a 12 year old.)

So, if ( Read more... )

I heard really good things about that movie, and the 3D effects in it. My first impression without seeing it was "must be one of those movies they make from a book, where the movie doesn't live up to the book and confuses you if you haven't read the book first" (the Golden Compass comes to mind). But I'd only heard good things.

You definitely do not need to have read the book first. You probably do need to be over 7 or 8 to appreciate it though. The timing is a little confusing. As people said previously, there are two main storylines going on and the second half of the movie really pays tribute to Georges Melies. Also, Scorcese is a genius. The movie is just really well done.

would you say one has to see it with the 3D effects or can I wait for the dvd? lol

Oh no. You don't need to see it in 3d. I hate 3D. It never feels visually totally comfortable for me. There is one stunning scene in 3d, but the rest you can do without.

In other news, fic is eating my brain. I have been getting some fantastic ideas in the shower. What is wrong with me?
I often have fic ideas under the shower, especially as I'm washing my hair. I just leave a small pad with a pen in the bathroom when I'm in a creative period.

I'll have to find time to go and watch "Hugo" during my vacation. No 3D for me though, as it gives me blinding headaches very quickly.

I figure I get ideas in the shower because I'm completely undistracted in the shower. When I say ideas, I mean, phrases. Not plots. Just a few words strung together. I believe tomorrow's merlinadvent came to me in the shower.

3D can make my vision feel wonky for hours, but Hugo didn't bother me after. It didn't feel completely comfortable during, but it was ok. I'd have preferred flat, but this was all there was. I think DD1 really liked it in 3D although the glasses bothered her. She's never seen a good movie in the theater before *facepalm*.

I also get lines, bits of dialogue, bits of text in the shower!
Plots would be asking too much, I guess ;o)
I write everything down asap because I know that otherwise that fantastic line I thought of while washing my hair will never come back to me as it was first.
I also have those kinds of writing flashes just before falling asleep which means I also have a notepad by my bed.

Shew. Glad to know I'm not alone. I can usually keep the phrase in my head long enough to get to the computer.

The other night I got a fire underneath me and had to finish up my merlinadvent fics, but usually I just try to go to sleep.

I need to see the gifs you posted on a different computer because all I'm seeing here is stills.

Eh. Still not persuaded. Honestly, I feel like anon X. It's not Colin. I think I have monogamous tv boyfriends. Colin's it right now, although Bradley is awfully close behind:D

*insert eye roll here* Just glad to know I'm not the only one bothered by the age discrepancy. I know it has to do with labor laws, yadda yadda... but still...

I don't really think that many people would notice Asa being too old for the part. Honestly. I think it's just that I have a 9 1/2 year old and I see kids every day who are up to 12 years old. Asa is amazing and he deserved the part. You just can't disguise those early teen big feet and hands though.
