Reaction to 4.10 Merlin

Dec 03, 2011 23:00

I just watched 4.10.  I watched it alone this week due to scheduling difficulties.  I was happy to watch alone.  It's been a busy weekend with lots of socializing.

Summary: I liked this ep a lot.  Bradley just gets better and better.  Also, did Colin have a cold when they were filming this block?

Spoilery thoughts behind cut and from memory since I  ( Read more... )

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought Colin had a cold XD. I figured they filmed that late because I remember someone from the cast saying there was something going around and Colin caught it.

I feel like Arthur saying the Druid people are going to get the respect they deserve is going to come back and bite him in the ass, though. We know at least one druid doesn't turn out to be so good in the end and that's the one he needs to worry about XD

I will basically scream at my computer for an hour if there's no magic reveal coming up, or worse, it's the cliffhanger this season. There better be a Christmas special the next day of 40 minutes worth of Arthur's reaction. That's all I want. One minute of Merlin going "No, really, I have magic - see?", forty minutes of facial expressions from Arthur, and then another minute of him finally accepting it. These are my demands.

sakjdf THOSE RINGS, THO, UNF

Also, ADE <3. Fabulous acting from him as well. I need more single knight episodes.

Well, we saw that interview right after they finished filming and Jeremy Webb said something about the last block in that interview, so I put two and two together.

Ack. You are right that there is one druid that is going to bite him in the ass later:(

If there is a magic reveal at the end of this season, I'll be ok with that. If there is no magic reveal, I will be mad.

Yeah. Those rings. &^*%$%aksdjfldY&*^&%

Ade is awesome. I love the ensemble cast. I am missing ASH though.

I totally thought of you when I saw Arthur sitting there with the rings so beautifully displayed.

Can't you just see it, though? The opening titles would come on, Merlin would be like:

Thanks for asking princealia for all those gifs of Arthur. It's brilliant! And it's in my lj and makes me insanely happy:D

Also, I missed this comment, somehow. I thought I was replying to your other comment.

I think Bradley was awesome last year, but I think they've just given him a lot more to work with. In fact, I think he's been good since the start, but the focus has been on Merlin and so it's not been until the very end of S3 and now S4 that Bradley has a chance to really shine. Angel is also very good.

I loved this ep. It was perfect for me. I am not a big shipper, so I don't care how many slashy moments we get. I am a fan of good stories and great acting and that's what we got in this ep.

Were people complaining about the hug scene? Clearly the writers put that in for the slash fangirls. I wasn't fussed one way or another.

Gifs are fun!

I don't see Arthur/Gwen being the focus of the show.

Yeah, the character development we are seeing of Arthur is stunning and Bradley is really showing up for it.

Uh. Not emotional enough? This ep? They must have been watching a different show than me. I didn't feel that Arthur treated Merlin badly this time around. *shrug* I'll always have 4.06. That might be my favorite ep ever.

I thought the episode was wonderful and Arthur's reactions to things and Merlin were just fine. Bradley is amazing!

Yeah. Me too. I was thinking recently that I would have thought Bradley was a great actor if I hadn't been blinded by Colin for so long! The writers have given him great material to work with this season.

tbh, I though the bit with Arthur crying on his knees was very trite and cliche, ("I can still hear the screams!") - but I enjoyed it, not trying to be difficult, don't kill me ^^;

It may have been cliche, I don't know. Honestly. I've not watched *that* much tv. I found it moving though and I thought Bradley did a great job with that scene.

shoot, and here I was just happy that there was that slashy moment where Elyan whispered in Arthur's ear.

I'm a little confused about what you are responding to here. You are happy that there was one slashy moment at the end? I wrote this after I'd read a couple reviews, so I was kind of responding to those. I really did like this ep and am looking forward to rewatching it.

YES!! Finally there seems to be someone who likes this episode! :) I personally found it incredible and very moving! I've really liked each and every episode this season, (though 4.08 and 4.09 not as much, but really I've never actually disliked a Merlin episode) and it seems everyone is so bent on being negative. So thank you so much for being the first positive review I've read in a while ( ... )

Almost everyone else I talk with liked it. People have alluded to negative reviews, but I haven't seen them:D

Bradley was stunning. He stole the show. I don't like the teasing. It feels mean, but it's not very often or long, so I can just ignore it. I did like how Gwaine was checking on Elyan in his chambers though.

Someone else was pointing out that it wasn't Merlin who was changing Arthur's perspective on magic and how they thought this was right. I agreed with that too. It was a very powerful episode.

Loved that little bit at the end. The fact that Merlin can tease Arthur is good. And someone else (in these comments, I believe) was saying that when Arthur is hurting, he pushes people away. He wouldn't be looking for a hug under these circumstances. I don't really understand where the hug thing came from (I feel like I missed a panel or interview comment somewhere).
