Baking, cleaning, Merlin

Oct 29, 2011 10:32

I have a load of cleaning to do and some baking before we have guests over this evening. I am hoping to watch Merlin this afternoon. In the meantime, I'll leave you with the chocolate cake recipe I'm about to go bake.

Mmmm, dense almost flourless chocolate cake. With lots of butter:D I'll save a piece for you.

:D If you make it, make note that the measurements in the brackets are if you use cocoa powder instead of chocolate. I always use chocolate, but I think dh did an experiment with cocoa once.

We also have a recipe for a chocolate hazelnut cake that is divine. Much lighter than this one.

Ooooh, wouldn't that be cool? The cake still needs the glaze, but you'd be welcome to put your feet up and have a cup of tea while I glaze it:D

Well, it's a variation of her recipe. I don't use ground nuts, rum, or coffee and I use Frangelico instead of Amaretto, but otherwise, yes, it's her recipe:D

Come join the rest of the Merlin fangirls. We're planning a party in my bed to watch on my laptop and eat chocolate cake.

Oh yeah. Her's had coffee too. No coffee in mine.

:D Unfortunately, all my fangirl friends are far far away. No one has taken me up on my offer to come watch Merlin in bed with me yet.

These days I'm usually in a bit of a hurry cooking wise so my cakes usually come from a packet mix.

My aunt makes a lovely moist chocolate cake. I finally found out that her secret ingredient for that moistness was beetroot. Somehow it wasn't as appealing after that....

I'm not sure whether she used the juice from canned beetroot or perhaps mashed up the canned actual betroot. I really should ask her.

I don't have packet mixes in the house, so if I'm in a hurry, it's faster for me to bake from scratch:D

I'm guessing she's using actual beet, not the juice. I've made tomato soup cake and something else along those lines. Those things are fine, but I prefer my dense chocolate cake. DH makes a cake with grated apple that is quite tasty too.

What did you think of the last ep?
