Yom Kippur

Oct 07, 2011 18:53

I am not the most observant Jew, but I do like to reflect, at this time of year, on the wrongs I've done and how I might do better this year.

I came across this post by and with her permission, am posting words that resonated very deeply for me.  I wish to share them with you with my whole heart.

Thank you. I find it very helpful to realize that I have been holding on to grudges and try to let them go.

I didn't know you were Jewish!

But wow, that's lovely

Oh. Um. Yeah:D

Thanks. I think it's really lovely too and try to think on it more than once a year, but once a year is better than not at all!

That's just lovely.

I never know what to say on solemn holidays like this. "Happy Yom Kippur" isn't really right, but I want to acknowledge the importance of the day for you and several of my other flisties. Is there something appropriate in English? The last line of your post? Something else?

I don't have a good answer. I will have to get back to you on that.

Hi there. The appropriate wish for Yom Kippur is either "may you have an easy fast" or "May you be sealed for a good year."

[you are inscribed in the book of Life on Rosh Hashanna, and 'sealed' on Yom Kippur]

You are so lovely to answer this question! Thanks for lurking and responding:D

I've also been pleased at the response to your words, that they were deeply moving to people who aren't Jewish as much as they were for me.

A rabbi I know posted a bit of this on Twitter today, but the whole thing is lovely. I've long thought that if I were going to adopt a religion it that it would be Judaism, because of beautiful practices like this one. Thanks for sharing.
