I also had a boss that came in everyday and threatened to fire me. Never mind that he had no cause. When I complained, he just said he was joking. But he wasn't laughing when I put it down on my yearly review what he was doing and he stopped (not that it didn't stop him from trying to sabotage my job - and he was partially responsible for my getting laid off, I believe (but I was happy to get laid off and I used him as much as he used me to do it)).
I think my hubby does this to me in a very subtle way and I'm just coming to realize that emotions are a valid mode for operating. Not that all decisions are based on emotions, but that there is emotionality involved. And I have let him do it. Ugh. Conversation for another time.
I think it's easier to guard against when it's so blatant; it's when it's subtler that it's hard to call out. Or when someone plays the logic card. Same thing, I believe.
