Reading

I've read (or listened to) 42 books so far this year. I am thinking that's not a very good rate, but maybe my expectations are too high. Any ideas how many books you've read this year?

If it hadn't been for audio books, I never would have gotten that high. I think I need to add a new shelf to my goodreads profile.

More than 42, I'm sure, but I don't actually keep count... and some of course are required for work/school.

Wow. That's impressive that you have time for reading outside of work/school!

I read whenever I'm eating a meal alone (usually; sometimes at dinner I watch part of a film), and nearly always for half an hour or so before I go to sleep.

The year I kept track--2006--I read 130 books, which seemed a little low to me. I blame this on also reading two weekly magazines. I think my reading has probably gone down slightly since I've had Alice, so I'll guess 100 this year.

Yeah, I'm pretty voracious. And I'm terrible about using the library, so it ends up being a fairly serious expense. But I pretty much have a book with me always--I read at stoplights :)

I could not live without the library. I think it helps me moderate my reading, actually.

Do you listen to audio books? I can't read and drive at the same time.

My incomplete book log has me down for 56 reads and rereads, including manga. Since manga reads much more quickly, it probably comes out to the equivalent of about 42 books for me, too. A lot of these are rereads.

The year isn't quite over yet; I am now in the middle of Let the Right One In because I enjoyed the movie so much.

What is Let The Right One In about?

Oskar is twelve and the target of bullies. He has revenge fantasies, but is not prepared to fight back, let alone act on his fantasies. Then a strange girl moves in next door. She smells bad, wears only a pink sweater against the cold, and comes out only at night. Eli tells him to fight back, and if that doesn't work, *she* will help him....

The movie was a sweet and creepy love story with very funny moments. It had a new (for me at least) take on why vampires can't enter unless invited. The child actors did a great job. I need to make a real post about the movie, which apparently did a good job of condensing the book.

Oh, true. I guess if they could count I've probably easily read like 300 or something. heh. I did read a quite a few novels aloud to them so I suppose I could count those. I have probably read more than I think I have, but still, not close to 42.

I think if you've read 10 books in a year, it's a good amount.
