The right tool for the job

So, it turned out that there was a teeny leak which somehow disappeared, so the sink is now fully functional (as far as we can tell). It's amazing what a difference it makes to have a sink that things actually fit in. I washed a bunch of stuff today that normally just sits on the counter and waits until dh gets disgusted:P ( Read more... )

Yay for having a working sink! I know I was *very* happy last summer when I went ahead and had mine replaced; the previous one functioned but was really chipped and ugly. Now getting envious about the idea of a new range...

Well, I have lived with a horrible sink for 5 years. I realized today that this is the worst sink I've ever had. Nothing fit in it. It was ridiculous. Obviously the people who redid the kitchen before us didn't actually cook. They would have replaced the range too, had they actually cooked.

Are you going to get a new range eventually? I am getting so tired of using the oven mitts to open the oven door! Argh. And sealed burners would be lovely too.

I would definitely like to get a new range eventually. This one looks very cool, granted, but it has only three (unsealed) burners and the oven isn't big enough to hold my pizza stone, plus the oven temp isn't very reliable. Hey, it has to be lighted with a match, how much can I expect?

SO, however, has indicated that he likes the range and would rather keep it. *sighs* Unlike the dishwasher I don't think I can just replace the range arbitrarily in his absence.

It's amazing what non-cooking people do with their kitchens, isn't it? I see all these pictures of really fancy expensive kitchens and they're so poorly designed for real-life cooking.

Does SO use the appliance? I think that if he uses it and loves it, then he gets an equal vote. Otherwise, I think when he gets back, you get to go shopping for a new range:) Both of us use and despise our old range. I, however, detest shopping and we recently had an experience with our not-quite-2-year-old microwave that has us unhappy with GE which is really awful because we had finally decided we were going to buy a GE range. Now we have to go out and figure this all out again! Argh.

And I'm totally with you on the ridiculous expensive kitchens that don't get used. I just look at them and think "what a waste".

By the way, we only have three burners (well, three grates really, but it amounts to the same thing) and that part is fine. It is the fact that they are unsealed, it's very hard to simmer, and the oven leaks heat like crazy that drives me crazy. At least our pizza stone fits in the oven. We'd like a broiler that is on the top too, not underneath.

I don't know quite what I think about the Fourth Traveling Pants book. I read it all in one sitting at Borders on Saturday afternoon, so I kind of rushed through it. I'm definitely least satisfied about Lena, for sure.

I think we're supposed to feel unsatisfied with Lena's situation. I also feel unsatisfied with Tibby's relationship, but I've always felt that way about Tibby.

And I wonder when one of them is going to come out as lesbian. I've been waiting for that since the first book. In fact, I thought Tibby was in love with Bailey and then with this book I was wondering about Julia (that nasty phony harridan).

When are you going to Boston? Any particular plans, or just seemed like a fun place to go?

That's my question, too, especially since I live near Boston and haven't seen jelazakazone in a while....

Yikes! I had forgotten you were nearby as well. We will be there mid-June (14-24). I'm sure we can work something out.

We will be there mid-June for DD1's birthday and to go have fun. We were supposed to do this with my parents, but we are unsure if my dad will be there the whole time or just over the weekend. Have any suggestions?:)
