Plans for today

Feb 23, 2007 09:22

I had completely forgotten that there is a local coffee shop that has kids' concerts every weekday morning at 10:30. I might just go there, although the guy is not my favorite, he's not on my banned list either. It would be convenient to go there since I need to check out whether or not I can get dh's winter boots resoled in a timely fashion and ( Read more... )

Oh, something I forgot earlier -- does your library have any kids' programming, story hour or such? Or if not your local library, perhaps another branch?

Yeah, I checked into the library activities already. The only branch that is having an activity today is kind of far and at noon:P If it were my local branch, I'd totally just do it, but DD2 is usually ready for a nap around noon, so that would not be fun.

The kids' programming at the library drives me crazy. The timing is always wrong for us:(

I know what you mean. There always seem to be interesting talks or workshops or whatever on campus either days I'm not here, or at times when I'm teaching. *thinks* Not that it helps today, but you could write to the children's librarian and say that you'd love to go to their activities but X, Y, or Z times would be much better than what they have. Maybe they'd consider changing their schedule... there must be other people it doesn't work for, too.

I think if it were a small local library it would be worth asking, but it's one of 20 libraries. It would feel like trying to move a dinosaur. I don't really feel like anyone needs to change to accommodate our schedule though.

I think Rocknoceros is on Wednesdays. They are always fun. Next time you go and want some company, give me a call or email! :)

Do they charge every day? It cost us $7 to see the Banjo Man. I don't even like him. Ew. Had I but known... I got there and there was a person looking very official with a cash drawer and I had the girls with me and I felt committed, so I spent the money, but it left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth. I had the consumerist culture:P

Yup. It's always 7 bucks. I comfort myself with the fact it's not 7 bucks/person. Rocknoceros is cool... I am not a kids music fan, but they were orginal and tolerable.
I assume some of the proceeds go to him and the coffee shop assumes that all the moms will go and buy coffee and snacks for their kids so they make money that way. I assume the musician needs to make a living. ;)

It was $7 for the two kids. I assume if there had been one kid it would have been like $5.

The thing that bugs me is that my kids like these sorts of things, but they don't love them and it's not worth $7. Maybe $4 tops. I would have been much happier with $2 or 3.

I don't know what the breakdown is. I assume the house takes some and the performer gets some small cut. Musicians do need to make a living, but these kids musicians are making their living by doing birthday party (insert gagging noise now). They can't expect to make their living in public venues, I don't believe. *sigh* I just don't fit in. This is why I stay home so much:P Too bad the library programs never seem to match up to our schedule.
