So, um, anyone have a good idea for what to do with two small kids when you can't do anything outside and the mall gives you the willies?:P It's going to be cold, but maybe I should take them swimming anyway. *sigh* I don't think we'll survive spending the entire day at home, but maybe we can be really creative and find stuff to do here. Still

The problem with living just outside DC is that most of the cool stuff is in DC and on a day like today, just a tad too far to go to on a whim:P
DD1 is not too young for hands-on museums, but as I said, the museums are just a tad too far to go to on a whim. Plus, I do need to spend some time home today to cook dinner.
I'm still thinking though. Thanks for the ideas:)

other ideas include baking together (but, oh, the cleanup!) crafty stuff, my kids love when i break out my yoga mat and they get to do "yoga" or even try to keep up with some old tae bo tape (yes, i admit, i have some.) what about watching a movie with popcorn and the lights out, theatre style?

Baking is a nice idea, but we try very hard not to have any sugary baked goods in the house. Much easier for all of us to stay away from:)
Yoga is a fun idea. Maybe we will do that later.
We have no tv and no way to watch a dvd:( We are eventually getting a new computer and will be able to watch dvd's (in theory) then, but alas, we are out of luck until then.
Thanks for the ideas! Maybe we will make scones or something anyway:)

Do you mean a shopping mall, or The Mall? Because, y'know, you live pretty close to the Greatest Museums EVER, and the Metro would be a fun diversion for them, too. (Heck, just riding around on the Metro, with no particular destination, might be pretty fun - you could even get off at Roslyn and ride the giant escalator up/down without leaving the system.) I know the Children's Museum hasn't re-opened yet, but maybe DD1, at least, might be interested in the dinosaurs, precious stones, etc of the Natural History Museum?
If you stay at home, you could try doing a spiffy lunch like I did for my girls a few weeks back, using cookie-cutters to make fun-shaped sandwiches, a tablecloth, that sort of thing. DD1 could help with that process, and since I know you tend to start letting your kids help in the kitchen pretty early, hopefully there'd be something fun for DD2 to do, too.

Unfortunately, I am not prepared to go Downtown today. We do like Natural History and I think they'd even like some parts of American History. But DD2 actually doesn't care too much for the Metro right now:( And I do need to be home for some time to cook dinner.
As I said to someone else, maybe we will bake some scones later today. It would be nice to just stay home and clean up the house. I think we will figure something out. I'm off to see if the library has any programs we could go to.
(And sandwiches? DD1 doesn't like them! Can you imagine? It drives me crazy.)

There is a nature center in Annandale that is free and neat. There's lots of stuff in MD, but it is a little pricier.
We've gotten used to be at home. Alot.
