Back before my writing died a slow and painful death, I usually started at the head because I didn't really have an idea, but occasionally I started with some scene in the middle and built a story to allow that scene to happen.

That last method you mentioned - I have done this before, too. Sometimes characters are just so good that they deserve a story.

Yeah, nowadays I get ideas but I never manage a finished product. Whereas before I finished stories without having an idea to start out with. Crazy. (My German comic is effectively finished even if I didn't upload the end. But that's one that I did because I had to do something for an assignment, so it falls into the had-no-idea category.) I would like to quit my job and pursue creative pursuits. But I always regret creating anything.

Oh, I would like to see one of your completed stories sometime!

Creating is hard. We open ourselves up to reveal the working heart of us and the inspiration that comes from deep inside. Then, when others do not understand (or worse yet, criticize) it cuts a deep wound. I don't know either if I ever want to share my work. It could be rewarding, but also requires sacrificing something of ourselves to others.

There's always the method of writing, throwing away the first draft and writing from scratch. I'm thinking of doing that to some of my earlier works.

Heh, yeah, I know what you mean about that. It can be frustrating, but also refreshing. Keep up the good writing work! :D
