Writer's Block: Secret Ballot

Nov 04, 2008 13:20

Sadly, my husband, who went out to vote earlier than I did, reported some minor vandalism in our neighborhood. Overnight, someone stole or removed our Obama-Biden yard sign (but left the one for Mark Warner for Senator, which was right next to it). When I drove to work, about four blocks further down our street, someone had hung one of the large  ( Read more... )

that is so sad i am assuming you are also in Virginia because of the Mark Warner reference .i live in Richmond and i have seen some simuler vandalism ,i think that such tactics are far more destructive to there own cause , because it makes me think that Ma cain supports vandals and halogens.
i am glad his voting experience was a good one i found mine to be very quick as well .less than half an hour for the whole proses

That's horrible
Although im underage, me and my friends have done something childish to a sign as well
We stole a "Women for McCain" sign and wrote NOT after Women so it read "Women NOT for mcain"
And then we put in back in their yard

Sure it was extremely wrong. But im only 14 im going to do stupid stuff.
Besides im sick of women supporting Palin just because she has a pussy.
She has no idea what to do as VP. She's severely underqualified.

You said "Sure it was extremely wrong..." So you learned something--and probably several things. I think it's important to learn to respect other people's right to have an opinion that's different from yours. However, there are ways to express those opinions that are constructive, and ways that are rude. Stealing signs out of other people's yards is rude...and it's also illegal. Not a habit you want to get into, in my opinion--and you may have already decided about that yourself ( ... )

L's got Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, or CFIDS--in other countries, sometimes called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. There are some other associated syndromes/symptoms that he shows signs of: the worst for voting is called Orthostatic Intolerance, or OI ( ... )

My G-d, this sounds like a severe version of something that
runs in my family!!! My aunt once remarked to me that she
had the hardest time standing for fittings, because she
would get faint - and I replied that I had a similar problem.
We always assumed it was because we were tall (and I
always had low blood pressure - or at least on the low side
of normal).

I think our polls have similar accmomodations.

You should look up OI and the related Neurally Mediated Hypotension (NMH) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) to see which ones ring true for you. Wikipedia has some good articles, as do a variety of hospital and support group pages. It can be really amazing to discover that the quirks one always thought were personal weirdness are actually part of a medical case definition.
