I had to read Canturbury Tales in old English, with no translations allowed. Boo! All the best to you as you deal with Chaucer. He's not an easy read, and yeah, his works are indeed sexual. Blegh! :-)

all of the stories?! with no translation?! how the hell did you do that?! and how old were you when you did it? schools in britain typically do it when you're like eighteen... i couldn't cope without the translation, although we're not allowed to take it in to the exam (we can take an annotated copy of the book, though).

he really isn't an easy read, although my english teacher suggested that we read it to ourselves with our local dialect in our head to make it easier to understand, and it does actually work.

i swear my english teacher is obsessed with sex. she keeps labouring the point at us that there are some canterbury tales that are more "vulgar which she can lednd us iif we're interested in reading them. :/

the story itself isn't too bad, though. the knight (januarie) makes me laugh, as does the merchant (even if he is a bit of a misogynst. oh, happy days. :p

I was 19, and ready to graduate when we were told no translations could be used. We all did the best we could, and went on to university. I survived! As for the sex, yeah, my teacher was into that too. Eww! I'm not into that, so it kinda made me uneasy.

You are so lucky to have the translation book with you...all the best as you take the final, or upcoming exam. :-)
