I'm glad you guys got things taken care of and now its crazy in another direction. I think I'm coming home in early August when I have a few days off, so I'll come over and see the place. Yea!
Also, Greta is an awesome name (and the name of the lead singer of one of my fav bands, The Hush Sound!). I hope she settles in sooner or later.
Yeah Susan. I must be a bit tired too because when I read "the kitchen and the dining room are attached" I thought "glad to know they don't have to prepare their meals across the yard."
Can't wait to make a trip into Albany and see the house. And if you ever want to go shopping at Ikea for fabulous functional swedish house stuff you can come out for a visit.
Yay, house! I can't wait to see it, and to meet Greta (I'm sure she'll warm up after all the craziness dies down)! We might not be able to come up to Albany before the end of the summer, but I hope you'll have a big party over the AHS reunion weekend ;)
I hope you have a chance to relax a bit and enjoy the rest of your summer... ease into the house, paint the walls crazy colors (because you CAN! because it's YOUR HOUSE!!), and seek out air-conditioning whenever possible. ::hugs!::
how long have you had the new cat? some cats take a pretty long time to settle in- and while keeping a cat confined to one room works for some, it doesn't always work for others. if its only been a couple of weeks, i'd give her more time-- the moving and shifting of boxes and rearranging of rooms are only adding to her anxiety- once you're settled in and she understands that no more changes are coming at her, she'll settle in. good luck with the house! and the lessons at home. and the kitties. and in all things in general. hugs.
thanks for the message, Sherry. that's really encouraging about the cat. it's true that it's only been a couple of weeks, and that there have been a lot of loud changes going on. we've been bringing food down to the basement for her for a while now, and i've considered just keeping food up in the kitchen, where the other cat eats... i'm not sure.. it's more of a tactic to get her out of there and to avoid the inconvenience of bringing food down to the basement twice a day. i dunno.. what are your thoughts?
I'm a proponant of tough love. If she is coming out to eat then I would keep the food in the same place where the other cats eat. It will do two things- force her to come out of the basement (force her to interact with the world that frightens her) and begin instilling the sense of a routine, she'll learn that this is where the food always is- even though other things in this house may change, her food is in this spot
