It's been an odd few weeks, I've willingly bought plane tickets and got on a plane to Toronto for a week with Travis and Toni plus the Swinton army, more posts to come on that!

Plus now I am on Shared Parental Leave (which for the non-UK friends) translates as, I am now on Paternity Leave looking after Travis for 13 weeks, while Toni returns to work ( Read more... )

lj sudden departure disease!, oh canada!, parenting, travis, rugby league roadtrip!, toni

wow 13 weeks of paternity leave? that's amazing. most of our mothers only get 6 weeks! we need a change here.

the sleep pattern Travis sounds absolutely awful. I don't know how all three of you are surviving, but I hope you can get answers (and resolutions) soon. bets wishes.

You Americans need a change and a whole system like the NHS over there!

To be accurate, in Britain, you get 6 months maternity/paternity at full pay, another 3 months at reduced pay and the final three months where one parent can take it off but has no income. Throughout one parent (usually Dad) works full time but Dad also gets 2 weeks paternity off with the newborn at the same time as Mum. Toni had the first 39 paid weeks of maternity and now I am on the final 13 unpaid weeks.

We've had entire months where he hasn't slept more than 2 hours in one go! We are surviving as that apart, most things are really good! Thanking you :)!

13 weeks of paternity leave is incredible. Wow. The US has a LOT to learn from other countries when it comes to parents getting time off work. Actually, the US just has a lot to learn. Period. lol

I'm sorry Travis's sleep has been so bad. Is his first birthday coming up??? Time seriously flies! I feel like he was just born a couple of months ago. Wow. Anyway, I hope that you guys can get everything resolved soon so you can start getting well rested again!

Glad you enjoyed Toronto! I went once 12 years ago, and I thought it was pretty nice. A lot like New York City but much cleaner and with nicer, more polite people! hahaha

Cheers, it has been undeniably tough. He is 1 on 13th August, you are right! It does feel like absolutely no time at all!

That is all very true, we did remark that it is clean and bits in the centre resemble New York! I love a good City break!

Colic is a whole other issue, we've thankfully escaped that, that sounds worse. Babies eventually work out how to sleep, that's what we are clinging to right now, ha!

Yeah, the American system is absolutely crazy to me!

Travis is nine and a half months old now.
