I Guess I'll Never Play Football For England Then..!

Aug 07, 2014 01:28

Today was peculiar, I got to announce my retirement from football, even though I'm not a professional or anything. This is because I got my MRI Scan results; the prognosis wasn't great ( Read more... )

Oh that sucks but if it reduces the likelihood of a hip replacement then that's got to be worthwhile thing to do.

True.

Pain now, less pain later or not much pain now, much more later! On balance, I choose the former option!

First Gerrard, now this. Whatever next? But on the plus side, you'll never have to run again, which is good. If nature had meant for us to run it would have made it more comfortable and enjoyable to do so. ;) Plus you can still swim, and with all the rain we've been having it might be a useful option pretty soon.

Seriously though, that all sucks and I hope it won't be too traumatic for you. It'd put the shits up me if my doctor told me that!

We'll never qualify for the Euros at this rate! What with us being shit and all! Hmmmm, true. I would like the option, say if I was being attacked by a pterodactyl, or something. I do prefer swimming to running. Then the sweat gets shared with those exercising with you, instead of remaining on your clothes. Bonus.

Thank you, bud. Me too! The danger you've got though is that I'm posting nonstop over that 2 months as I won't be able to leave the house. Maybe I'll get cabin fever and it'll be absolute insanity...

Wow. I'm so sorry that I missed this!

That just.. sucks so much. I mean, it sounds like you're definitely making the right decision, but it's unfair to have to give anything up, you know? :(

I guess if nothing else, at least the guy was honest with you. At least this way you know the score and you're not going to get any awful "oh, by the way you can't X anymore!" surprises down the line.

You're allowed to worry! And be mad! And out of body experiencing it up if that's what helps. :(.

I hope the rest of your week looks up :(

(Also, as an aside, Toni is gonna be 30? No way!)

No worries, I kinda wish I'd missed out on this piece of news, ha!

I suppose on the plus side, at least I'll give up before I'm too slow to play and realise that I'm too rubbish!

The doctor was very honest; in the way that he must be used to giving out worse news than that, as he seemed completely unfazed.

I'm only annoyed that if it was looked at earlier something might have been done but I guess that's partly my fault for not pushing the issue years ago. Ah well!

Thank you, matey :)! I'll have a few drinks tonight and tomorrow before Toni returns on Sunday, so all good! Hope your weekend is looking up as well!

Aye, incredible, isn't it?! More comments like that, all over the place, please! As she's been using the word 'haggard' about herself far too much lately!

haha, I'm sure you don't mean that!

Precisely! You either quit while you're awesome or stick around long enough to be shit... so you're taking the better of those two options if I do say so myself.

Yeah, I imagine he's got worse news all the time... but still. My experiences with doctors have never blessed me with one so transparent, so he might still be a rarity!

It's easy to say that now that you know, though. At least in five years time you won't be wishing you had it looked at five years ago ;)

Not going to be in for the most exciting weekend, but going to go visit my Mom for a couple of days and snuggle my cat while Shane is in Edinburgh.

haha, any more and I'll get booted out for being a stalker! D: I honestly didn't believe it though!

Thanks, but you've never seen me play football, maybe I was about fifteen years too late already, ha!

Yeah, fingers crossed!

Very good point, at least I won't be asking that question when I'm having my hip replaced!

CATS = win!

Nah, you can never fire enough compliments at ladies, that's true, isn't it ;P!?

bummer about that hip :( Would you be able to cycle? Maybe time to explore new horizons if you have to retire from football? I used to run but it was too hard on my knees and I was in my early 20's at the time.

Aye, cheers! Cycle, but I can't! I can swim though, so that's great! I've had yoga suggested but I'll welcome any suggestions that you may have...

Running is supposed to be really bad for you (in some ways!), so maybe you made a narrow escape!
