So, It's London Olympics 2012 Time..!

I am genuinely interested how much The Olympic Games interests or impacts on your life; do you ignore it entirely, watch it when your respective country is on or do you basically stick it on as much as possible? Like I do, I'm watching canoeing currently and enjoying it immensely ( Read more... )

Well, even though i'm a huge sports fan...for some reason I am just NOT into the Olympics, AT ALL!
As far as the opening ceremonies, I was rather unimpressed, and that seems to be the strongest opinion here in America. Most were extremely disappointed, and were left feeling like...was that it? Most definitely fell flat over here. Everyone was waiting for something spectacular, and it just never happened.

I'll be waiting for them to end, knowing that brings us even closer to kickoff!!!
Go Pack Go!!

You see, yours was the type of answer I was very interested in, a sports fan who doesn't like it! Have you watched it in the past and just not liked any of the sports or is it something else?

I thought that the ceremony was very 'British' and not everything would be enjoyed as much elsewhere, mind you, I've thought that about other ceremonies I've seen too! There were lots of 'in jokes', on a grand scale, like everyone assuming the Queen in her cameo would be a shit impersonator, yet it wasn't... Fair play to the 86 year old for joining in though!

It'll also be closer to your lads' defeat to the Seahawks ;)!

Well yes. we always watch a little here and there. I watched a little archery and volleyball today....it's not that I don't like the events. Perhaps it's just that it's too much? So many events, I never can keep up! Who has the time!? LOL
It's just a lot of scattered events, it's hard to hold my attention is all. I do however have the greatest respect for the athletes and their dedication. It's most honorable! I love driven people

The ceremony was just a wee bit vanilla for this chicky

!It'll also be closer to your lads' defeat to the Seahawks ;)!
NEVER!

It can be a little overwhelming, I have to admit that I have really fond memories of the 1992 Olympic Games where I was on Summer Holidays from school (I was 9!) and I could sit all day and watch everything (and there was no multiscreen option!)

It IS scattered, that can be a good thing though (I can't stand tennis, fencing or Equiestrianism) although at least I've now given them all a fair crack!

I don't think anyone can deny their dedication or skill in their respective fields.

The draft means that from season to season, we might beat the big teams from the previous year, I'm very optimistic (as you'll come to see when the season kicks off ;)!)

being athletic i do enjoy the olympics and it inspires me to try harder and try new things. at the same time i get kind of sad that I never excelled in any sport to that level. i never even worked out until I was in my mid-20s.

i have picked up archery but it was because i had an interest for it in high school. obviously i find that pretty interesting during the games!

Doesn't it also make you in awe of those who can achieve such skill in (relatively) minority sports?

In archery, there's still time for you then :)! The America-Italy final of the Men's Archery was absolutely gripping!

Watched the opening ceremony (in 3d), and loved it, but it's also a bit obligatory cause I've been involved in some of the red button stuff and mainly I look to bug test apps and check the quality, and then I kinda watch the sport in the background but don't care who wins unless it's the brits against one of our old historic enemies and then I feel a primeval twinge of competition for a few seconds until we lose and then i'll turn it off. I must admit rather than really getting into the opening ceremony like most people I was counting how many 3d shots went wrong and how they could have worked better which makes it tough to get into the content. Not bovvered about the sport although today I am sat overlooking a wall full of TVs showing the beach volleyball, so I may have a different answer by this evening :)

I watched the grand prix yesterday though, of course ;)

Oh, I did really enjoy how the ceremony was a massive fuck you to the tories, of course. Also the NHS celebration bit must have been interesting for an American republican to digest.

The beach volleyball is focussing on the men's tournament now. Not so much fun. Interest levels have gone back down to 5%.

That's what I think many of our foreign friends might not have caught the subtle nuances of!

Ask hits_ofsunshine, she'll give you a few opinions!

Hahah! I wonder why ;)! Although judging by the internet, the female 'sportporn' is definitely the male gymnastics!

I think it takes all sorts when it comes to perspectives, I doubt many were watching it for that!

It takes all sorts when it comes to views about what is entertaining sport, definitely ;)!

Good to hear!

Yet, it still managed to squeeze in Paul McCartney, Daniel Craig and The Queen! Choreography definitely beats celebs!

Although I only intended to watch some of the ceremony, I watched it all the way through it was that captivating. Engaging, celebratory but with the right amount of pathos and sensitivity with typically British humour. Although Mike Oldfield did look creepy.

As for the sport itself, enjoying a bit of the archery with the impressive Lords' pavilion acting as a smart backdrop, whilst also taking in the football, tennis, canoe slalom, hockey (girls and the hockey lads!!), swimming and more besides, and cheered when our boys took bronze in the gymnastics! Also fingers crossed that Katherine Grainger can win that elusive gold in the double sculls....

Miles better than I thought it would be, agreed! Mike Oldfield would after a career of doing that with frightening movies!

Stevo is at some of the Lords action! I think canoeing is great to watch, you never see it on TV apart from Olympics though. I'm sure as GB are the most motivated team in the football, they'll be a dark horse for a medal. The gymnastics was fantastic, such power and grace is most admirable.
