Livejournal > Facebook

At the end of the day I still prefer Livejournal to Facebook. The degree of personalization here is unprecedented. The calendar is also a much-missed feature. At the end of the day my LJ actually feels like it's my own space, whereas Facebook feels more like someone else's space that I'm using. The communities are also vastly superior here. that's actually one of the things i prefer about lj.

i started my journal anonymously and later ended up with a bunch of people i knew IRL... however, my "who do i add?" was based almost entirely on "whose journal is well-written, funny, interesting, etc."

whereas on facebook, it's based on "who am i okay with seeing my updates, even though i'll put them on a facebook list i never read, filter them out of things i don't want them to see, etc."

i switched to google+ for the most part

i was just saying this to a friend of mine, that facebook feels like "the world", as though everybody & everything is there, even though actually they are not, & you filter a lot of your own & others' information anyway. i was mostly making this claim in comparison with google+. i think google+ feels a little more claustrophobic, even, than facebook. it feels like you're sharing a document with friends on gmail or something. soon, it may feel more like facebook, but, until then, i'm trying to keep the fire burning here in lj land. all my friends have left for twitter, or, if not that, tumblr. others abandon their accounts entirely & use facebook exclusively. it's just not the same. i miss my online community. it's falling apart, nearly extinct. sigh. lj feels like the last vestige of true online homes.

10 years and I am still here (Although I delete/undelete my account often). I feel the same way.
