I don't like to speak badly of people but tonight I have to rant a little about someone. The conductor of the FCC Community Orchestra told the orchestra tonight that the reason they have to perform so early in the season is because the theatre department keeps taking more time in the theatre away from the music department. He didn't see me standing

I think politly talkng to Mike might be in order. BUT keep in mind that most people (like the conductor) hear what they want to hear regardless of what Mike actually said. How many days does each department have on the stage? Also which department provides the labor for setting up/taking down the shell and lighting equipment, etc.

If it needs to happen, it is possible to design sets that can share the stage with an orchestra *IF* that is the mandate (and the directors can be brought in line).

I hope it doesn't come to this. We have such a good working relationship. I don't think the music department wants to change that.
It might be a good exercise to figure the ratio of time on stage between the departments. It might give me more ammunition for an instructional tech!

Am I correct that the theatre is a School of Theatre space, and that music is leasing the time that they're there? If so, if this is their attitude... well...

The theater is Division space (which includes thteatre, dance, speach, music and art)....but theatre takes care of the space.

It's not the general attitude. They are always extremely appreciative of my time and my help. They know the sacrifices I make to do this job. Until we can hire an assistant it won't change.
I just want some time off to go to USITT and LDI once in a while! An assistant would help here.
