I emailed Sony to ask about a refund for my PS3. They recently released an update that disables linux support (a feature that was advertised when I purchased it). Refusing to install the update removes your ability to go on the PlayStation Network as well as play new games and BluRay discs. When I first read about the removal of the "Other OS" function, I was really, REALLY hoping it was an early April Fool's joke. Fuckers. I was so stoked to find an original 60GB PS3 at my local GameStop last November... stopped in on a whim even though I'd checked the website earlier that day, and it said the closest available used 60GB was in California. They had just happened to get one in the previous day, and hadn't logged it in the computer yet. GAAAAAAH. I haven't even gotten around to installing Linux on it yet, mostly use it to play Blu-Rays and BBC shows (Doctor Who, Torchwood) that I download from torrents, and of course the occasional game. If I can't get on PSN, fine, whatever, it's probably going to become a subscription service soon anyway. But if I can't even play Blu-Rays (haven't tried recently) without applying this bullshit update... ohhhh they are going to get some nasty phone calls. I can't believe that the users have no legal recourse here. I can't believe that the PS3 Linux community (Dartmouth, the freaking Air ( ... )

If PSN becomes subscription-based, I think people will be even more pissed off. That's one of the reasons I picked PS3 over XBox. I don't play it nearly often enough to be worth a monthly subscription, but I like having access to online content ( ... )
