Beer is better fresh, within reason. The brown ale I normally brew wants at least two weeks in the bottle to age, and a month is better. After that, it's at it's flavor peak for 2-3 months, and it's still pretty good for about three additional months. After more than six months total, it's pretty well not worth drinking anymore

OMG: Oh my God Ponies: errr. Perhaps a reference to "I always wanted a pony for Christmas!"
My guess would be this phrase is a generic surprise/approval. Kind of like "ooh, shiny!" - which is a generic for distracting and cool stuff, probably derived from ferrets' ability to be distracted and attracted by anything shiny.
Last year's Slashdot April Fool's Day Edition was decked out in shiny pink (they'd just redone their CSS so this was relatively simple to do site-wide) and had "OMG! Ponies!" as the header. It's a silly-teenage-girl-text-messaging sort of feel, presumably to show that /. appeals to more than just the traditional SKUDA (School Kids Using Dad's AOL) demographic...
