  • The leading names for our new puppy so far are Comet and Captain Nemo. Both names are pertinent: A comet, after all, is a dirty snowball, which the little guy resembles after rolling in the dirt. Also, we could then say, "Comet and QBit" to precede "Donner and Blitzen." ( Read more... )

Probably. Carol's sister calls QBit "QBie" so it was a straightforward extrapolation. We're leaning toward "Captain Nemo" now, so the question is mostly moot.

I was into auto rallying back in college in the 70's. Electronic calculators were becoming common, but the veteran navigators all used Curta mills. Too expensive for my budget, then or now, but a marvel of mechanical engineering.

I'll ask Pete Albrecht about this; he did a lot of rallying in Europe in the early 80s. He's even been to Liechstenstein. He would have seen them if anybody would.

Now, what did you guys need to calculate for a road rally?

Well, the kind of road rallying that I was involved with involved driving a course over the public roads and passing various checkpoints at precisely the correct time. It was all about precision, not speed ( ... )
