There's far worse abuses of patent than what has happened to Microsoft. In the provided link, a wealthy businessman patented some Mexican Yellow Beans he had found on vacation, something grown by the peasants for over a century, and used the money earned from taking a cut of all US imports fund a defense against litigation. Apparently he was allowed to earn money right up until the patent was invalidated, even in the midst of litigation.
Of course; such examples are numberless. What I meant was that if Microsoft's cash cow is threatened, Microsoft will begin spending money on patent reform. And that will bring it to the top of the queue.

No, of course not. Look at a catalog for today. The images might be less goofy, but they're no more relevant to the obese, slouching, shapeless, utilitarian-clothed androgynes of 21st-century America than are these to the girls of 1973. But a catalog filled with ratty jeans and tie-dyed t-shirts would look somewhat discouraging. These bizarre fantasies are at least colorful!
